Life Story Of A Notebook
History
It is a little hard to determine which is the first notebook or portable computer ever made. The Osborne 1 is considered by most historians to be the first true portable computer or notebook. This was produced by Adam Osborne in the year 1981. It featured a 5 inch screen, modem port, floppy drives, few bundled software programs and a battery pack. The total weight of the notebook was about 11 kgs. Gradually after this Epson, Radio Shack, IBM, Apple Computer etc. all came out with a portable computer. IBM`s IBM PC convertible introduced in 1986 was a true laptop computer. This computer ushered in the laptop area. Since these early models, notebooks have seen tremendous development.
Features and Functioning
Notebooks have the identical major components as Desktop PCs: microprocessor, RAM, operating system, input/output ports, hard disk drives, speakers and sound cards, and speakers. However, all laptops have power management features to extend battery life, or conserve battery power when battery is low. A notebook differs from a desktop PC in terms of power supply, display, and the type of input devices it uses. Notebook processors usually have multiple sleeps, meaning slow down modes which help in increasing battery life and can also run on low voltage. Hard disk in the notebook also functions in the same way as it does in Desktop. These are slower in speed and have lesser capacity.
In addition to hard disks, notebooks also have options for removable disk storage system such as Floppy Discs, CDs and DVDs. A notebook also has various input/output ports that enable you to connect to various peripherals. Most notebook computers today feature built-in modems and Ethernet for external connectivity. Infrared ports for wireless connectivity are also becoming very popular. One of the most critical components in a notebook is its battery as it works on battery power for usage while on move. Battery life offered is different for each device as it depends on the configuration and power management features implemented. All notebook computers come with an in-built LCD screen for display output. For Input, notebooks are featured with built-in keyboards for text inputs. As far as pointing devices are concerned, notebooks use one of the three-Trackball, Pointing stick, Touchpad.
Advantages & Disadvantages of Notebook
The most important advantage of a notebook is its portability. One can work with ease anytime and everywhere. Also, access to wireless networking in public places is making notebooks more and more useful. The counting of disadvantages for a notebook always starts with its high cost. Not only the initial cost, its parts are also expensive and are not interchangeable. Notebooks have a lesser storage capacity and its processor usually works at a lower speed when on battery power. Notebooks are also prone to theft due to its portability.
Future Directions
With falling prices and acceptance of new technologies, we can expect to see a significant increase in demand of notebooks. Vendors are also working on the design of the notebook to make it stronger so that it can withstand jerks and shocks. New technologies are being integrated into the notebooks to prevent failure and data loss. Mostly used by corporate firms, professionals and businessmen, vendors are now targeting students and home users as well because of increasing affordability of these devices.
So the emergence of this new usage category is definitely on the cards. This means there is a huge potential for notebooks in the coming future and the price cuts offered with technological improvements are sure to fuel growth.

Data Transfer Made Easy By Pen Drive
Pen drive is the best solution to end this problem. These USB flash drives are integrated with a USB interface. They are small, removable, lightweight and rewritable. Their main advantages over other storage devices are that they are faster, more compact, can hold more data and are much more reliable thanks to their durable designs and lack of moving parts. It is the revolution of pen drives that more and more computers are being made without the floppy drive while the USB port has to be present on almost every mainstream computer and laptop.
A pen drive consists of a printed circuit board generally in a metal or plastic. The memory storage of pen drives range from the usual to 250MB to 2GB or more. It is as small as a key-ring. For the pen drive to work, both the computer should be USB-compatible systems.
Pen drives are faster to use than downloading data through e-mail and easier than using dozens of floppies. Pen drives can store data, video and audio files, with plug and play ease. The best feature of a Pen Drive is you don`t need any software to make it work thus simplifying your work of copying or transferring. Moreover, it also does not require any type of battery. These features make the pen drive totally portable.
You don`t need to install pen drive for Windows 2000, XP or ME as it is done automatically by the operating system. But for Windows 95/98/98SE, you need to install the drivers manually.
These pen drives are most popular amongst system and network administrators. They can load them with information about configuration and software that can be used for the system`s maintenance, recovery and troubleshooting. They also enjoy noteworthy success in the field of PC repair as a mean for transferring recovery as well as antivirus software to infected computers, and also allowing a segment of the data of host machine to be archived for emergency cases.
Pen drives act as Application carriers and are utilized to carry applications for running on the host computer without installation. Some applications that use this technique are U3 and airWRX. An open software platform, Portableapps also allows similar functionality on non-U3 drives. But undoubtedly the most common use of pen drive is for personal data transportation you can transport and store your personal files like documents, videos and pictures. You can also store certain medical alert data on Medic Tag flash drives to be used in case of emergencies and for preparation of disaster. Apart from this, pen drives are used in Audio players.
Pen drives present a considerable security challenge for big organizations. Their ease of use and small size allows unsupervised guests or unscrupulous staff to smuggle off confidential data with little or no chance of detection. To avoid this, some flash drives have features like encryption of data stored on them. This is a preventive measure to stop an unauthorized person from gaining access to the stored data stored. Newer pen drives support the biometric fingerprinting for confirming the user`s identity. This process though costlier is a better way to protect sensitive data from leaking out.

Notebook Purchase Review
With a Notebook, you can carry your work around conveniently, without having to worry about the myriads of wires, hardware and space needed to keep a desktop. Also, you can choose whether to work from office or home. A Notebook is really handy in any situation.
Portability and mobility are the great advantages of having a Notebook, or laptop. In your Internet search prior to buying a Notebook, you will be presented with a great variety and quantity of information. This can be quite bewildering, so you have to know what features you need in a Notebook.
Upgradabeality is an important consideration: the Notebook you choose now may be the one best suited to your current needs; but in future, you may find it necessary to upgrade it. You will not want to invest valuable time and money in purchasing a Notebook which you will have to discard or sell off in the near future, because of what you might feel as the inadequacy of your current one. When you consider upgradabeality, you have to think of memory or RAM, and hard disk space.
The CPU, or Processor, is the engine which will drive your Notebook`s performance. So you should choose the fastest CPU that is available, depending on your budget and on what you will be using the Notebook for. Tasks like word processing, emailing and surfing the Net do not require a fast CPU. But using CPU intensive applications, such as processing spreadsheets or playing games will work better with a fast CPU.
The RAM, or memory is another important feature, and the more memory you have, the better. Your Notebook`s performance will be greatly affected if you do not have sufficient memory. The minimum recommended these days is 1 Gigabyte of memory. Some experts recommend a minimum of 2 Gigabytes. The more memory you have, the better the performance and multitasking you can expect from your Notebook.
The speed and capacity of the hard disk of your Notebook are important, for this is where you will install all your software and your data (documents, database, photos etc). Make sure that you have enough room to store all your information which can be readily accessed. 40 Gigabytes of hard disk space is considered the minimum these days. Consider getting a Notebook with 80 Gigabytes of disk space.
Do note that Apple Notebooks are now using Intel processors, which means that if you have a hard disk with sufficient disk space, you can partition your disk drive and install both Apple Mac software and Windows software, and switch between the two.
You also have to consider the screen of your Notebook, for this is what you are going to be staring at, and you have to be happy with its resolution and size. You will want a crisp, bright screen with good viewing, especially for photos. You can go and look at different screens at a local electronics store, and try to figure out which size and resolution you like best. Just be sure that the screen is an Active Matrix one and not Passive Matrix.
The other features you will be looking at to connect to your Notebook are external devices such as a mouse, printer, portable disk drive, scanner etc. Good luck!

Types of Slot Punches
There are several different types of slot punches available today that can make holes in your identification card in a variety of different sizes. The reason this device is so popular is because it makes these slots or holes without cracking or splitting the laminate. There is no other tool around that can do that.
When your office or company is ready to purchase an ID card slot puncher the first decision will be to determine what size slots is needed for the ID cards. Making that choice will be easier when you know a little about the different options that are available to you.
Here you will find a list of some of the different types of slot punches:
The electric punch is the best option for companies that need to make a variety of different size holes. Since they are electric, all you do is set the controls for the size and shape you need and the machine works automatically.
The hand-held punch is the easiest to use and the most inexpensive. However, it is best used when you only need to punch holes occasionally. If you go through a great deal of badges, it would be hard to keep up using this one.
The table top punch is great for the company that goes through a large number of ID cards on a regular basis. It makes punching cards fast, easy and simple so they will be ready to hand out in a matter of minutes.
The stapler punch is recommended for offices and can be purchased in either a lightweight design or a heavy-duty one, depending on how much you expect to use the device.
Slot punches are designed to do a variety of different functions such as round out the corners along with making perfect round holes or slots in the identification cards. That is why you never have rough or sharp edges anywhere on the ID badges. These slots are perfectly punched everytime without any hassles whatsoever.
All of these devices are reasonably priced and one of the best investments you will ever make when you are responsible for creating your own ID cards. The badges you create will have that professional look and feel to them just like the ones you order from other companies. If your business or office has an ID card printer, then you must have one of the slot punches to go with it.

Faster Computer 101
Faster Computer 101
We all want a fast computer it is the one thing that we all really want when buying a new computer. We are very happy with how fast it was running when we first buy it from the store. It started up without a hitch or any error windows and any time we opened a program there was absolutely no hesitation. Over time your computer will always begin to slow down and this is when you will start getting annoyed. There are various causes of this but there is also three very easy ways for you to remedy this problem.
You can always add additional memory to start, this is a reason that your computer may simply be cheap when you buy it first up because it actually has very little memory in it and simply needs more to function in a reasonable manner. You may feel as though all the numbers sounds like it is actually a lot of memory when in reality it is not even enough for it to function normally, you must add more if you want your computer to run really well. You can buy your own memory from many places and install it yourself or have someone who actually knows what they are doing to install it for you. This may be a better option, as you don’t want to stuff up your computer even though it is quite easy to do.
There are other things other than buying memory that can help your computer speed up. You can get rid of spy ware stuff on your computer, as this tends to take up a lot of space when it is running on your computer. Thee generally only show themselves through pop up windows however they are running silently in the background all the time. People often have many different spy ware programs running unknowingly and this really halts and clogs up the system in a big way. You can easily get more than you think running. Get an anti spy ware program and run it and this is simply the easiest way to clean up your system and have it running faster than ever. It will both more secure and faster.
There is one more way that you can clean up your computer and make it run faster that is often overlooked my most people. You can clean up the errors in the Windows registry. Sometimes people are a bit worried about tampering with this part of the system however it is quite easy to do and is actually very effective. You don’t have to do this all by yourself there are many programs which you can download and will do this for you automatically the trick is simply to find the best one. This will clean up your computer get rid of those really annoying pop ups and stop system crashes occurring.
